How to relax insects
etsy.com/shop/beetlebuy
This is not the only way to do this. There are many ways but this is the way I was taught so it's the way I prefer.

How to clean a preserved specimen, in this case a Goliathus beetle which I purchased from a collector yesterday. It's not the best looking beetle which allows me to try a few different techniques to enhance the appearance and share. This technique was suggested to me by the seller.

    Pooring them a warm bubble bath and putting old episodes of Grey’s Anatomy usually does the trick too😂

    Do you need to dry out the inside of the beetle 🪲 if u were wanting to put them in resin to preserve them? How would you go about this? Do you have a video?

    I would highly recommend take the specimen apart because those spot are caused by the oil from organs decomposing inside, using glue will only remove dirt outside and will not make any differences

    Adding that last paper towel on top is a bad idea if you are working with fragile (most) insects. Fine for the stout beetles seen here though.

    • @pastelrainbow2458
      @pastelrainbow2458 3 роки тому

      I seen a video where someone fold paper towel around a butterfly, dampens it, puts it in the fridge for a couple days, and then gently unfolded it and the butterfly (which is delicate) wasn't harmed at all. Looked perfect

      @michellewalker8792 2 роки тому

      @@missymihlfread8832 this has not been my experience, sometimes there are tiny tears in the membrane from the dehydrating process and the wings can turn translucent when they come in contact with water -that dries out eventually but it absorbs resin too

      @vincentbernier7808 Рік тому

      for butterflies you should avoid direct contact with water or moisture. You can place your insect on a mesh above wet/hot towels in your closed box. For bigger butterflies (also work with other insects), you can inject water inside them with a syringe.
